dynaTrace AJAX Edition 1.6 available for public download
Existing users of the dynaTrace AJAX Edition receive the update notification about the latest available version when opening your current dynaTrace AJAX Edition. Everybody else out there that needs a FREE tool for JavaScript/AJAX Performance Analysis for Internet Explorer 6, 7 & 8 can go ahead and download it from our download page.
What does dynaTrace AJAX Edition do for you?
It allows you to analyze your web site performance and point problems to bad performing JavaScript code (either your own or code inherited from JavaScript Frameworks/Libraries), excessive rendering activity by the browser, slow or too many requests to network resources per page and problematic XHR (XmlHttpRequests) triggered by AJAX Frameworks in a matter of minutes. The most common performance problems that we have seen in the past are caused by:
- Expensive CSS Lookups: 101 on jQuery Selector Performance, 101 on Prototype CSS Selectors
- Too many network roundtrips or XHR Calls: Performance Anti-Patterns in AJAX Applications
- Slow JavaScript Libraries: Performance Analysis of slow JavaScript Menus
- Rendering Issues: Understanding Internet Explorer Rendering Behaviour
- CSS Expressions: The Real Performance Overhead of CSS Expressions
- Network Resource Issues: 101 on HTTPs Web Site Performance Impact
You can listen in to a recent webinar I ran with Monster.com. They are using the dynaTrace AJAX Edition and talk about their Best Practices to prevent AJAX/JavaScript performance problems in complex Web 2.0 applications.
What’s new/updated in dynaTrace AJAX Edition 1.6?
The details of this release are listed in the release notes.
Here are the highlights:
- Easier access to server-side drill down for full end-to-end web site performance analysis (from the browser back to the DB)
- Improved session handling: sort by time and name, default session name is taken from run configuration
- Improved settings: configure whether you want to see call into the DOM, follow XHR Requests or capture response body content
- Bug Fixes: Memory Leak in IE, exception in Timeline View and incorrect handling of UTF-16 & UTF-32
What’s coming in the future?
dynaTrace AJAX Edition is heavily driven by our community. Most of these enhancements came through direct interactions with our users – either using the Feedback Form, the Community Portal Pages or the dynaTrace Blog. We are currently working on some of the items listed on the Wish List which we prioritize based on the feedback we get – so – get on this page and tell us which feature would make your life easier.
Most often – the people behind the scenes don’t get enough appreciation for the work they do. Therefore I want to take the opportunity to say Thank You to the dynaTrace Team that built this great tool for us all. They are all located in our R&D Office in Linz, Austria enjoying the lovely winter weather ![]()
